Taking It Slow

No hurry to get these blobs out in the morning. The readership has dropped since summer started and it’s not currently at the top of my list to do. Now I’ve put it right after cleaning a fish tank, which I try to do one each day. I used to have a hate on for snails, but since I ramped it back up this year, I’ve embraced the snail. It used to be I’d spend a lot of time trying to get rid of them, now I’ve lowered the tank levels to encourage them to lay more eggs. Unbelievable, never thought that day would come. What! you would rather watch a snail than a YTPC video? I guess, sometimes that’s true. At least the snails can make me money.

Packing My Pipe

Don’t ask me why, but some pipes are finicky when it comes to packing. You would think, all you have is an empty chamber with a little hole at the bottom, why would they be different? But some are, I don’t get it. I have some pipes you can do just about anything and the draw is perfect, and some where I have to even empty the tobacco and start over. Throw in a filter and it makes it that much worse. Once you have it packed right, they are great but they can give you trouble.

No doubt I can be OCD about it, but if it isn’t perfect before you light it, then it’s usually too late to do anything about it. You can pick through it to increase the draw, but you’re just hoping. I have a feeling the consistency of the filters may vary, but I’m not sure. I’m only talking about a few of my pipes that are like this and I’d say 75% of those are filtered pipes. It’s usually not an issue, but it happens often enough to notice. I wonder if other people have a similar problem, or if it’s just me.

Perfect Pipe

Mr. Phill Rivara put out a quick video yesterday of a billiard that is just beautiful. If you want to know what I consider the perfect pipe, an absolute classic, have a look at that pipe. Of course it was already listed as sold. What a shame. Not for the person who got it, but for the rest of us. I love pipes with interesting shapes or stem materials, but nothing beats the perfectly executed billiard. With a metal collar on the stem, perfect! I could smoke that a million times and love it just as much as the first day I got it.

There are some really good pipe makers out there, but personally I compare their work on that shape.
